Makes me proud to be British.... NAAAAAHT

Race to hospital: Students down lethal amounts of alcohol in deadly game where aim is to be the first in A&E

It is the ultimate dangerous drinking game and another depressing example of the state of binge Britain.
University students have been filmed downing lethal amounts of alcohol in a shocking competition to see who can end up in hospital first.
The race only ends when one drunken student either vomits or has to seek medical treatment in a hospital.

Read the hole article on the disgusting subject online Here

This makes me ashamed to be British, ashamed to even be Scottish (we have the worst reputation in Britain) and ashamed to be a student...

A quote from the article "When they reach the ground to complete the challenge the students can be heard chanting ‘We hate brain cells’..." clearly shows these guys  are not ignorant of the damage they are doing to themselves but their hedonistic ways get the better of them and they remain intent on causing it.

How long are we willing to let this go on for? How is this going to impact on the future health of these students, when they have successfully given themselves liver damage and gotten themselves to a point where they need to have transplants as a result of these self inflicted illnesses. In 20/30 years time are we going to have a nation of middle aged residents with chronic liver ailments that we can't cope with or have the resources to treat? The future strain on the NHS is immeasurable. Are we going to have to arrive at a point where patients needing medical attentions because of excessive alcohol consumption either have to pay for their own health care or are to be refused treatment?

This was from The University of Manchester and in recent times there have been street riots over students (in England?) having, now, to pay their own tuition fees; how much money are they spending on alcohol when they are consuming such vast amounts on disgustingly frequent occasions? (admittedly you could argue that the price of alcohol is so cheap it its allowing them to act and behave in such abhorrent fashions; but thats another argument completely
Surely the money they are shelling out - to quite frankly kill themselves - would be better spent on their educations?
The money being spent by the NHS on treating such insolent students and adolescents is contributing to the fact that the government can afford to subsidize tuition fees any longer and cut backs are having to me made to keep us from falling further and further into national debt, is it not? (then again i know jack about politics so don't quote me on that! ;) ).
